The Formal Elements in Art & Design
Students are introduced to the formal elements in art & design. These include colour, line, tone, texture, pattern, shape and form. Students will experiment with a variety of different media and engage in observational drawing.
Cycle 1 will focus on developing drawing skills and will pay particular attention to the use of line, tone, pattern and texture in drawing.

Week 1: The formal elements- Mark Making & Tonal Bar
Week 2: Drawing a stag beetle paying particular attention to, light and shade.
Week 3: Drawing a Jewel Beetle, exploring coloured pencils and blending.
Week 4: Artist reference: Ergin Inan's studies of beetles, will inspire today's drawing that will explore pastels and paint.
Week 5: Assessment week: A still life
Week 6: Super teaching week.
Week 7: How to look and observe correctly, whilst drawing a still life, focusing on looking at the negative spaces
Week 8: Recap and catch up on this cycles work. WWW & EBI and include self, peer and teacher assessment
