Cycle 1: War & Conflict
In this unit of work, Students are introduced to the theme of 'War & Conflict ' We use this title as a springboard for ideas and inspiration for original and exciting KS3 artwork.
In this unit we shall study a number of different artists and art movements from different eras and different parts of the world.
We explore and experiment with a variety of different techniques and approaches in art, this gives the students a rich and meaningful art education and experience. .
Students will be encouraged to be creative and try out different ideas and directions, thus allowing them to produce unique and individual artistic outcomes.
This fun and exciting unit of work will hopefully get them thinking about studying art further at KS4.
Cycle 1:
Week 1: Introduction to the new unit of work, mind maps and title pages.
Week 3: The animals that helped win the war. Pencil drawings of pigeons
Week 5: Coloured pencil studies of pigeons.
Week 7: Looking at Picasso's protest painting Guernica. Initial drawings and note making
Week 9: Assessment week: Observational drawing of uniforms, army boots, gas masks etc
Cycle 2:
Week 11: Introduction to cardboard sculpture, measuring, scoring, folding cutting. This will form a base for a 3D art piece inspired by Picasso's Guernica.
Week 13: Construction of additional 3D shapes to be attached to the
cardboard construction.
